Watch: Yashasvi Jaiswal was run out on the second evening of the Boxing Day Test after a horrible mix-up with Virat Kohli.
India lost Rohit Sharma cheaply after the Indian captain had made his move back to the top of the order. KL Rahul stitched a solid second-wicket partnership of 43 with Jaiswal before being dismissed. Kohli then joined the young southpaw, adding 102 for the third wicket before chaos ensued.
Jaiswal pushed a Scott Boland delivery towards mid-on where Pat Cummins was stationed and set off immediately for a single. Kohli, however, looked back at Cummins instead of responding to Jaiswal's call. After taking a step, he turned his back denying the run, but by then Jaiswal had come running all the way to the non-striker's end.
Cummins was calm, as was wicketkeeper Alex Carey, who collected the throw on the run and dislodged the bails with both batters at the other end to end Jaiswal's promising innings at 82. India's period of misfortune continued as Kohli fell seven balls later, edging a Boland delivery through to the wicketkeeper for 36.
At stumps, India were 164-5 in 46 overs.
