India spinner R Ashwin has announced his retirement from all forms of international cricket, midway through the ongoing Australia-India Test series.
Ashwin, the second-highest Test wicket-taker for India, accompanied Rohit Sharma at the post-match press conference at the end of the Gabba Test, announcing that today will be his last day as a Test cricketer.
Ashwin was not picked for the Gabba Test, playing only one out of the three Tests in the series so far. He retires with 537 Test wickets, the seventh-highest on the all-time list.
"I've had a lot of fun," Ashwin said at the press conference. "I must say I've created a lot of memories alongside Rohit and several of my other teammates. Even though I've lost some of them over the last few years, we are the last bunch of OGs, if we can say that, left out in the dressing room. I would be marking this as my date of having played at this level."
