Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah took X-X against Australia in Perth, moving past James Anderson and Allan Donald for the most Test five-wicket hauls by a fast bowler away from home.

Jasprit Bumrah took 5-30 against Australia in Perth, moving past James Anderson and Allan Donald for the most Test five-wicket hauls by a fast bowler away from home.

India won the toss and chose to bat first on a spicy wicket in Western Australia, and felt the full force of Australia's bowling attack as they were reduced to 32-3 and 73-6 before a lower-order resurgence led by Nitish Kumar Reddy (41) and Rishabh Pant (37) saw them inch to 150, bowled out in two sessions.

Indian skipper Jasprit Bumrah then led from the front with the ball, taking three wickets in his first spell – Nathan McSweeney lbw in the third over, and Usman Khawaja caught behind and Steve Smith lbw off consecutive deliveries in the seventh.

The middle overs were taken over by India's support pacers in Harshit Rana and Mohammed Siraj, but Bumrah returned late on day one to pick up a fourth wicket, dismissing opposite number Pat Cummins to ensure the hosts ended the day at 67-7.

In the morning session on day two, Bumrah struck with his very first delivery – getting wicketkeeper Alex Carey to nick one through to Rishabh Pant – to complete his five-wicket haul.

Pacers with most away Test five-fors: Bumrah passes Anderson, Donald

It was Bumrah's 11th five-wicket haul in Test cricket, and his ninth away from home. He now has two five-wicket hauls each in Australia, England and West Indies, and three in South Africa.

In doing so, Bumrah went past several greats, including James Anderson, Zaheer Khan, and Allan Donald for the most Test five-wicket hauls by a pace bowler away from home. He is now level with compatriot Ishant Sharma and West Indies great Andy Roberts.

The record remains with New Zealand's Richard Hadlee, who took a stunning 21 five-wicket hauls outside New Zealand, and 36 overall – the fourth-most of any bowler ever. Glenn McGrath, Wasim Akram and Sydney Barnes are the other pacers with 15 or more five-wicket hauls away from home.

The only Indian seamer with more Test five-fors away from home than Bumrah is Kapil Dev, with 12.
