Marsh, who was involved in a controversial lbw decision earlier in the day, departed soon after following a belated appeal for caught behind by wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant. The fourth ball of the 63rd over was bowled outside off by R Ashwin, which the batter looked to defend away on his front foot.
The bat hit the pad as the ball whizzed past to Pant behind the wicket. The Indian wicketkeeper did not appeal initially, only later going up for a half-hearted shout. Even before a decision was made by the on-field umpire, Marsh chose to walk, suggesting he had nicked the ball.

However, replays later showed there was a flat line and a clear gap as the ball passed the bat but Marsh had been ruled out by then. His non-striker Travis Head, who later went on to make his eighth Test hundred, did not contest the decision of Marsh to walk off either.
Interestingly, both Ashwin and skipper Rohit Sharma, at first slip, later expressed their displeasure at Pant for not going up in appeal straightaway. Pant has not had the best game as a wicketkeeper, giving away 13 byes and failing to latch onto two opportunities till the time of writing.
With Marsh’s wicket, Australia fell to 208-5, having already taken a lead after bowling India out for 180 in the first innings.
