Lowest targets at SCG

India have set Australia a target of 162 in the fifth Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).

India resumed their second innings on the third day at 141-6, hoping that the overnight pair of Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar could take their lead beyond 200. However, Pat Cummins and Scott Boland didn't take much time to clean up the tail, letting the visitors add only another 16 runs before bowling them out.

The one good sign for India was that captain Jasprit Bumrah came out to bat, although it's not clear whether he's fit enough to bowl or not.

Lowest totals successfully defended at SCG

The all-time lowest total successfully defended at the SCG is 110 by England against Australia way back in 1886-87. Three other targets lower than what India have set Australia in this game have been successfully defended at the SCG: 117 by South Africa against Australia in 1994, 153 by England against Australia in 1883, and 159 by Australia against Pakistan in 1973.

India's 161 will be the fifth-lowest total ever successfully defended at this venue if they manage to do it, and the lowest since South Africa's successful defence of 117, 31 years back.

Interestingly, India have never won a Test match while batting first at the SCG. Their only victory at the venue came in 1978, where they won by an innings and two runs while batting second.
