Australia won their quickest Test against India, with the game lasting only 1,027 deliveries. The hosts took a sizeable lead after the visitors, opting to bat first, were bowled out for 180 in the first innings. They managed 175 in the second, giving Australia a target of 19 to level the series. Nathan McSweeney and Usman Khawaja needed 3.2 overs to chase it down, as Australia made a comeback following the debacle at Perth.
The absence of Hazlewood, who missed the second game due to an injury, was not largely felt as Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins returned with five-wicket hauls each over the two innings. His replacement, Scott Boland, also picked up a match-haul of five wickets as Australia completed a clinical win.
After the game, Australia skipper Cummins was hopeful that Hazlewood would be fit for the third Test, beginning on December 14. However, the bowler, who underwent a fitness test on Monday, has chosen to adopt a wait-and-watch approach instead. "I think it'll be how I pull up in the 24 hours following it [the fitness test] really”, he said.
“It’s just that repetitive (action) and obviously two spells makes a big difference.

"Cooling down pretty much fully and then going again in the same day, and the intensity has got to be right up there as well. So a few boxes to tick, but it's probably the 24 hours that follow and pulling up again the next day and then thinking 'yeah, I'd be right to go again if I had to'."
Hazlewood: Not a typical strain
Hazlewood also added that it was not a “typical” strain and that he could have played the Adelaide Test had it been the last of the summer. “It's not necessarily your typical side strain, which I've had a couple in my career," he said.
"If this (Adelaide) was the last Test of the summer, I could have potentially run the gauntlet and played. I think I would have been in a pretty bad state by the end of the game, even though it was only a short game but it just wasn't quite right.”
