Jasprit Bumrah was seen leaving the field, before being driven off SCG amid an injury scare in the fifth and final Test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy.
Bumrah leaves the field, Kohli takes over
Bumrah came to bowl the second over after lunch with Australia at 105-5. His speeds were significantly down, hovering around 120s. After the over, Bumrah left the field with Virat Kohli taking over as India’s captain. Having led India to victory in the series opener in Perth, Bumrah was again entrusted with the captaincy for the final game when Rohit Sharma decided to rest himself owing to poor form.
He initially went off for 30 minutes before lunch and once again left the field in the second session. The live visuals from the official broadcasters saw Bumrah leaving the Sydney Cricket Ground for a scan in his training kit with support staff.

Bumrah so far has bowled 10 overs in the match. After removing Usman Khawaja overnight following a fiery exchange with his opening partner Sam Konstas, Bumrah gave India a perfect start by removing Marnus Labuschagne cheaply for 2. That was his 32nd wicket of the series, the most by an Indian in a bilateral Test series in Australia.
Substitute fielder Abhimanyu Easwaran replaced him on the field. Bumrah’s bowling workload has been a talking point in this series: he has bowled 908 deliveries so far, only Pat Cummins has delivered more (912).
Given that Bumrah battled an injury which kept him away for a year, between September 2022 and August 2023, India would hope his absence is nothing serious, especially when the series is on the line and the 2025 Champions Trophy is on the horizon.
Australia ended their innings on 181, with Prasidh Krishna being the pick of the bowlers, taking 3-42.
Update: Bumrah returns to SCG amid injury concerns
In the latest update, Bumrah has returned to the venue as he was seen in the Indian dressing room when their batters were out in the field to set a target. After being skittled out for 185, India fought back by dismissing the home side four runs short of their first innings total. India need to win the match to stay in the hunt for the World Test Championship final race.
