Harshit Rana and Nitish Kumar Reddy both earn their Test debuts

An official statement is pending, but Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill are both set to miss the first Test in Perth.

After a successful Ranji comeback for Bengal, there were suggestions that Mohammed Shami could arrive in Australia much sooner than expected.

A Cricbuzz report, however, indicates that the team management would prefer he play a few more domestic matches (possibly in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy) in order to build up his fitness.

The India A side, which has been in Australia since late October, is scheduled to depart soon. 

However, Cricbuzz have reported that Devdutt Padikkal could remain with the Indian squad, given the injury concern around Shubman Gill.

Harshit Rana is yet to make his international debut, but has done well on the second day of India's match simulations – bowling some sharp bouncers and taking two wickets by drawing the edge. 

Media personnel in Perth have not been allowed inside the venue on Saturday, due to a security shortage.

However, Abhimanyu Easwaran has lost his wicket early, continuing to look out of sorts on this tour.

In an ominous sign ahead of the Perth Test, Virat Kohli fell to Mukesh Kumar after edging to second slip during India's practice match.

Wisden.com has learnt there are no issues with Sarfaraz after being hit on the arm.

The team will head into the Perth Test without a practice game, having already scrapped the scheduled match against Australia A.

According to Cricinfo, India have been training behind a black cloth so as to keep the players away from prying eyes.
