Rohit Sharma injury update

India captain Rohit Sharma suffered an injury scare while practicing in the nets ahead of the Boxing Day Test. Akash Deep gave an update on the extent of his injury.

According to several reports, Rohit Sharma was hit on his knee while batting at the MCG nets ahead of the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne. The Indian captain was pictured with an ice pack around his left knee, sitting with his leg outstretched after a net session.

That was not the only injury scare the hosts suffered. Seamer Akash Deep was hit on his hand and got a bruise while batting in the nets today (December 22), while on Saturday (December 21), KL Rahul was also hit on his hand in a training session and had required medical attention.

What's the extent of Rohit Sharma's injury?

Akash Deep attended a press conference after training today and cleared the air around the injuries going around in the camp. The fast bowler said there were "no major concerns" and that all were "minor injuries".

“The practice pitch is probably meant for white-ball cricket, the ball kept low at times," Akash said. "As for these minor injuries, these things happen at training, and there are no major concerns because of that. I am fine.”

Rohit was also reportedly spotted moving around freely after applying the ice pack.

Apart from Akash Deep's comments, there has been no official communication from the BCCI or the Indian management about the extent of any of the injuries, including that suffered by Rahul yesterday.

India have already been forced to deviate from their first-choice XI in the series due to injuries. Shubman Gill missed the first Test at Perth due an injury he suffered in training. Rahul had also suffered an injury during India's intra-squad training ahead of the first Test but had recovered in time for the match.

With the series 1-1, India would be hoping that none of these niggles come back to haunt them as all three of Rohit, Rahul, and Akash would be expected to part of the first-choice XI if available. The fourth Test starts in Melbourne on December 26.
