The final leg of the Women's Ashes will see England take on Australia in a one-off Test match from January 30. Here's the latest on England's squad and team news.
England have suffered a difficult tour Down Under. On Thursday, defeat in the third T20I made it six straight losses across the two white-ball formats – giving the Australians a shot at the first-ever clean sweep in the Women’s Ashes since the current points format was introduced in 2013.
On Saturday, England were bowled out for 90 in pursuit of 163 runs, suffering a 72-run defeat – the second-biggest loss in terms of runs for the team in this format.
Where will the 2025 Women’s Ashes Test match be played?
After the conclusion of the ODIs and the T20Is the solitary day-night Test match will played from 2:30 pm (local time) onwards on January 30 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
2025 Women’s Ashes Test match: Team news
While Sophie Molineux and Alyssa Healy have been troubled by injuries cutting short Australia’s options for the ongoing series, England have relatively fortunate with none of their players facing injury issues so far in the 2025 Women’s Ashes.
Kate Cross was named in the ODI squad for the Ashes series but the experienced seamer was not named in the playing XI of any of the three matches and with clouds around her fitness concerns, Ryana MacDonald-Gay might make her second Test appearance for England.
England Women’s Head Coach Jon Lewis praised the 20-year old’s maturity and backed her for the Test match against Australia.
He said, “Ryana's got real steel in her character. She seems really unflappable at times, and she's really logical in how she thinks about a cricket match. She is able to see a task and go and do it.”
Bess Heath, making a return to the squad after recovering from a thumb injury, couldn’t make it to the playing XI of any of the T20Is in the series but the wicket-keeper batter would be hoping to feature in the pink-ball game.
