Australia win women's Ashes

Australia completed and emphatic win in a historic Test match at the MCG, clinching the Women's Ashes multi-format series 16-0 - the first time a side has failed to win a single match in the contest since the multi-format system was established.

Australia beat England by an innings and 122 runs inside three days in Melbourne, tying up the first-ever whitewash in the multi-format system's history. The hosts swept the T20I series and the ODI series 3-0, going into the Test - which is worth four points - with a 12-0 points advantage.

Annabel Sutherland scored the first century by a woman in a Test at the MCG to put Australia in a commanding position after bowling England out for 170 on day one. Beth Mooney then went on to make her maiden Test hundred, becoming the first Australian woman to score a century in all three international formats - to give Australia a 270-run first innings lead. Alana King then spun a web around England's top and middle order, taking three wickets in a four over burst before the dinner break, including a ripper to bowl Sophia Dunkley.

Prior to this series, the biggest-ever win margin in the points format series, which was introduced in 2013, was a three-way tie of a 12-4 scoreline. England won the first-ever edition of the series at home 12-4, with Australia doing the same in the 2019 and 2021/22 series'. There have also been two drawn series, in 2023 and 2017/18, both of which ended with Australia retaining the Ashes.

Before 2013, the series was only played in Tests, varying in the number of matches played. There were four examples in those series of a side winning all of the available matches: In 1991/92, 2007/08 and 2010/11, when the series was limited to one Test, and in 2001 when Australia won a two Test series 2-0.
