Watch: David Warner was at his jovial best at Galle, using the stump mic to ask an Australian journalist to sit down after Sri Lanka’s batters complained about movement behind the sight-screen during the second Test of the series.
The incident occurred during a halt in play, which came courtesy of a disturbance behind the bowler’s arm. Warner walked up to the stump mic and politely asked the broadcasters to help out Sri Lanka’s batters. “Broadcast, can you tell Geoff Lemon to sit down in the yellow? The batsman is frustrated, please,” Warner said. Lemon hosts The Final Word podcast, alongside Adam Collins, and authored the award-winning book Steve Smith’s Men, about the Sandpapergate scandal.
Former Sri Lanka cricketer Russel Arnold couldn’t control his laughter, despite being on air. As the cameras panned towards Lemon in the media box, Arnold chimed in, saying that the Australian didn’t need to worry as the bowler was bowling from the other end.
After a tough first day, Sri Lanka have recovered well in the second Test at Galle. The hosts rode on Dimuth Karunaratne and Kusal Mendis’ fifties to set up a good foundation. Dinesh Chandimal and debutant Kamindu Mendis then took over, helping the hosts past Australia’s first-innings total of 364. As things stand, Sri Lanka are in control of the game.
