The two sides met in a five-T20I series in February this year, with Australia clinching it 4-1 (including one via Super Over). This time, the tour will begin with the T20I leg and will be followed by the ODIs and Tests that will run until July. Both Tests will be played at Galle, while the T20Is and ODIs will be divided between the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, and the Pallekele International Stadium.

There has been plenty of uncertainty regarding the fate of the tour, given the grim political situation in Sri Lanka. On May 31, Sri Lanka Cricket confirmed that the tour will go as per schedule, with the Australia team landing in Sri Lanka on June 1, ahead of the first game in Colombo. It was also confirmed that the white-ball leg will be played under lights, despite power issues that have been afflicting parts of the country.

Newly-appointed head coach Andrew McDonald, however, won’t be traveling with the contingent, having tested positive for Covid-19 ahead of the trip.
