Australia whitewashed the three-match T20I series against South Africa, and the hosts will be eying a comeback when the two teams face each other in the first of five ODIs on Thursday (September 7), with the tour running till September 17.

The first ODI will be held at Bloemfontein at the Mangaung Oval, with the second game also being held at the venue two days later. The action will then shift to Potchefstroom for the third game, with the last two ODIs being held at Centurion and Johannesburg, respectively.

Australia will be led by Mitchell Marsh as regular skipper Pat Cummins’ is absent with a wrist injury. Cummins has reportedly recovered but will only arrive in South Africa next week. Steve Smith, who was due to lead in his absence, has also been ruled out due to an injury he sustained during the 2023 Ashes.

The Proteas, on the other hand, will welcome back Quinton de Kock, Heinrich Klaasen, David Miller, and Kagiso Rabada for the ODI series, after they missed the T20I games. For Australia, Cameron Green, Alex Carey and David Warner will also make a return to the 50-over set-up as they begin their preparations for the ODI World Cup, less than a month away.
