Watch: Sean Abbott took a contender for “one of the best” catches during the South Africa-Australia third ODI, plucking out a one-handed stunner near the boundary rope on Tuesday (September 12).

The fourth ball of the 47th over by Nathan Ellis was a wide yorker, which Marco Jansen carved towards cover for what seemed like a certain six. However, he did not account for Abbott, who ran round swiftly from sweeper cover and extended his left palm towards the ball.

He successfully managed to latch on to the ball before falling to the ground just millimetres from the rope. The decision was sent to the third umpire, who not only checked whether Abbott was within the rope but also whether he was in control of the ball before falling forward.

The umpire ultimately ruled in favour of Abbott, and Jansen, who had his hand over his head in disbelief, had to walk back for a 15-ball 32.
