After registering a 3-0 whitewash in the T20I series, Australia will set their sights on the five-match ODI series which will serve as ideal preparation for both teams ahead of the upcoming World Cup.
The first two matches will be played in Bloemfontein, the third in Potchefstroom, the fourth in Centurion, and the fifth in Johannesburg. All five matches will be played within the span of 10 days, between September 7-17.
South Africa vs Australia 2023 ODIs: Team news
Mitchell Marsh will continue leading Australia in the ODIs after a successful start to his leadership career in the T20Is. Pat Cummins will be in South Africa but is unexpected to play as he recovers from a fractured left wrist.

Australia will be without other key players as well. Steve Smith is also recovering from a wrist injury, while Mitchell Starc has been rested to allow him to fully recover from groin soreness. Glenn Maxwell is unavailable as well as he recovers from an ankle injury. Spencer Johnson has been drafted into the ODI squad as Starc’s replacement.
South Africa have named a full-strength side with the likes of Quinton de Kock, David Miller, Kagiso Rabada, Heinrich Klaasen, and Anrich Nortje returning to the ODI squad after being rested from the T20Is. Dewald Brevis, who made his T20I debut in the recently concluded series, finds himself in the ODI squad as well.
