South Africa overturned a 2-0 deficit to seal a 3-2 series win over Australia with a 122-run victory at Johannesburg in Quinton de Kock’s final home ODI – watch the highlights here.
Marco Jansen put in an outstanding all-round performance, first blasting 47 off 23 from No.7 before claiming the first five-wicket haul of his ODI career as Australia fell well short in their pursuit of 316.
South Africa started slowly, losing their fourth wicket with 103 runs on the board in the 24th over of the innings. The Proteas skipper Temba Bavuma was run out in the second over of the innings before de Kock departed for the final time in an ODI on home soil for 27, edging behind off the bowling of Nathan Ellis.
The South Africa innings was rebuilt by Aiden Markram (93) and David Miller (63) as the middle order pair put on 109 runs for the fifth wicket. When Markram fell in the 42nd over, the innings was still very much in the balance before a late innings onslaught from Miller, Jansen and Andile Phehlukwayo catapulted South Africa to a final total of 315.
Australia came out all guns blazing in response, racing to 34-0 after three overs before Jansen made an instant impact with the ball, dismissing David Warner and Josh Inglis in his first over in the attack. Mitchell Marsh and Marnus Labuschagne put on 90 for the third wicket before the tourists collapsed in a heap, ending all out for 193.
Jansen took the first five Australia wickets to fall before Keshav Maharaj took a four-for as the Australia run chase petered out.
There was a memorable moment for de Kock in his final ODI as he took an excellent catch off the bowling of Jansen to see the back of Alex Carey for just two.
