Naseem Shah denied Cameron Green a shot at a maiden Test century on Tuesday, bowling the Australia all-rounder for 79 on his way to a four-wicket haul.

The 19-year-old quick was Pakistan’s best performer with the ball in Australia’s first innings of the Lahore Test, returning figures of 4-58 from 31 overs, including 13 maidens. Going at less than two an over, he showed control with the ball and was responsible for running through Australia’s middle order: he also accounted for Steve Smith and Travis Head.

Green batted through the entire morning session on day two alongside Alex Carey as Australia moved past 300, and a maiden Test century was in sight in the afternoon. But Naseem denied Green with a thunderous 140kph delivery that beat Green’s defence and sent the bails flying.

It reduced Australia to 353-7, and the visitors were eventually bowled out for 391, with Shaheen Afridi also taking four wickets in the innings.
