Watch: Alex Carey was bowled around his legs by Zahid Mahmood, the 34-year-old leg-spinner on one-day debut, during the first Pakistan-Australia ODI in Lahore.

Mahmood, who had conceded 32 runs in his first four overs, bounced back strongly in his maiden ODI, dismissing Australia’s wicketkeeper Carey for a run-a-ball four. The second ball of the 40th over was a looping full one, which Carey tried to reverse-sweep but he was unable to get bat to ball. The ball beat Carey completely and went on to dislodge the middle stump, as Mahmood picked up his second wicket of the day.

Mahmood made his T20I debut for Pakistan last year against South Africa but did not play another game for the national side thereafter, having finished with figures of 3-40. The leg-spinner has played a total of 51 first-class games in his career thus far, picking up 153 scalps at an average of nearing 37.

Australia, led by a 70-ball hundred by Travis Head, raced away to 209-2 in the 33rd over before the Pakistan bowlers brought the hosts back into the game. They scored 104 runs in the remaining 17 overs, ending with 313-7, with Zahid ending the innings with figures of 2-59.
