Watch: Umesh Yadav’s counterattacking 13-ball 17 on a tricky wicket helped India over 100 in the first innings of the Indore Test against Australia. The innings included two sixes.

Umesh, who replaced Mohammed Shami for the third Test, walked out to bat at 88-8 after the Australia spinners had ripped out the India top order. With a first-class hundred under his belt, got going immediately, hitting the fifth ball that he faced for a huge six, slog-sweeping Nathan Lyon over mid-wicket.

That was the last ball of Lyon’s over. When Axar Patel ran a single at the other end, Umesh hit Todd Murphy for six, making it two in two. Murphy tossed the ball up, and Umesh bent down and slog-swept it again, this time over backward square, leaving the dressing-room amazed.

Umesh also hit a four in his innings, hoicking Murphy over mid-wicket to add crucial runs down the order. He was dismissed by Matt Kuhnemann for 17, and India folded for 109.
