The Indian batters showed no mercy to Australia as they treated their bowlers with disdain to post a target of 400. After twin centuries from Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer and a whirlwind 38-ball 52 by KL Rahul, Suryakumar Yadav entered to make further inroads.

Having scored a fifty in the first ODI, ‘SKY’ smashed an unbeaten 72 off 37 deliveries comprising six sixes and as many fours to give his side much-needed late-over flourish.

He greeted Green with a six over fine-leg. As usual, he used the depth of the crease and the bowler’s pace to loft it over the fence. He hit the second ball in a similar fashion with an identical result, except the ball went finer.

The third ball went for a glorious over-boundary after Surya played a picturesque inside-out shot. He then flicked the next ball over deep square-leg for a fourth consecutive six.

Green finished with 2-103 from 10 overs, the most runs conceded by an Australian in an ODI against India. The 91 conceded by his teammate Sean Abbott is the second entry on the list. India’s 399-5, too, was their highest ODI score against Australia.

At the time of writing, Australia were 49-2 in eight overs. They need another 351 runs in 252 balls.
