Watch: Suryakumar Yadav succumbed to a first-ball duck for the third successive time in the India-Australia ODI series.

The No.1 ranked T20I batter, who made his ODI debut in 2021, has had a torrid phase in the 50-over format this year. In six innings, he has been able to get to double digits just twice, with the last three innings all ending in a golden duck.

The first two dismissals came at the hands of Mitchell Starc, who saw his back in the Mumbai and Visakhapatnam ODI. The 32-year-old was demoted to No.7 for the third game, with KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya and Axar Patel all batting ahead of him.

The change of position did not help: Ashton Agar, playing his first match of the tour, turned a length ball away from the batter. Suryakumar rocked back, trying to manoeuvre the ball away to the off-side, but missed the ball completely. It stayed a bit low, straightened and rocked back the off stump.

Suryakumar staggered to his knees, disappointed with yet another zero next to his name. His ODI average after 21 innings now stands at 24.05.

India ended up losing the third game by 21 runs, conceding the series 2-1 to the visitors.
