Australia began the run-chase with the required run rate being eight runs per over. The visitors had to go hard at the start to maximise their chances of knocking down India’s mammoth target of 400. The helter-skelter approach backfired, resulting in the loss of two Australian wickets in the second over.
Krishna wanted to make the most out of his sparse opportunities after recovering from a lumbar spine injury which ruled him out for over a year. He came to bowl the second over of the run-chase as Mohammed Shami’s new-ball partner with vigour and zeal.
The lanky pacer banged his second ball into the pitch. Australia opener Matthew Short slashed at a wide delivery, but the steep bounce got the better of him. The shot came off the edge and was safely pouched by Ravichandran Ashwin at deep third.
The very next ball was a near encore of the last dismissal. Coming one down, skipper Smith threw his hands at a wide ball, which swung further away. Shubman Gill, as safe as a house in the slip cordon, pocketed the ball, rewarding the fast bowler with his second scalp in two balls.
