Watch: David Warner’s attentive vigil at the crease during the second India Test ended with a faint outside edge off the bowling of Mohammed Shami in Delhi.
Warner, whose place in the XI is under the scanner, started off tentatively in Delhi, not scoring a single run in the first half an hour of play on Friday. He soon got into his groove with two back-to-back boundaries in the 14th over of the first innings against Shami, before the bowler returned to dismiss the left-hander in his very next over.
The second ball, bowled over the wicket, was a length ball, which landed on the off stump before nipping away. Warner looked to defend the delivery but managed to get a small edge, which was easily collected by the wicketkeeper KS Bharat. The opener threw his bat away in desperation as Australia lost their first wicket of the game.
Warner has not crossed 25 in his last seven innings in the subcontinent and averages 31.70 in all Tests in Asia.
