Watch: R Ashwin picked up his first ODI wicket in 20 months courtesy of a bizarre stumping after the ball hit wicketkeeper KL Rahul’s stumps before it ricocheted onto the stumps against Australia on Friday (September 22).
Marnus Labuschagne was batting on 39 when he attempted to play a reverse sweep off a ball that turned in. The ball caught the splice of the bat before going on to hit Rahul’s pads. The wicketkeeper was unable to latch onto the catch, but, in a bizarre turn of events, it ended up landing on the stumps, as the umpires went up for a review to check for stumping.

Labuschagne’s boot was caught on the line and after a number of TV replays, it was confirmed that the batter did not have any part inside the crease as he was ruled out.
Ashwin, who last played an ODI game in January 2022, picked up his first wicket on his comeback game, as he eyes a World Cup spot.
