Starting just four days after the final day of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series, the three-match affair will act as crucial preparation for both sides ahead of the 2023 World Cup.
The World Cup is set to be held in India so the three ODIs offer an opportunity for both sides to test themselves against high quality opposition in conditions similar to what they will face at the World Cup later this year. Both sides were beaten semi-finalists at the 2019 World Cup and will go into the 2023 tournament as two of the favourites – the two sides currently occupy the top two spots in the ICC ODI world rankings.
All eyes will be on Shubman Gill as the young India opener looks to continue his sensational start to his ODI career; Gill averages 86.07 in the format over the past twelve months while maintaining a strike rate of 112.51. India have named an 18-man squad for the series. It contains Shreyas Iyer who is currently an injury doubt for the series after complaining of lower back pain during the fourth India-Australia Test at Ahmedabad. Several players involved in the Test series are set to take part in the ODIs.
