Australia defeated England 3-2 in a hard-fought ODI series with the openers Matt Short and Travis Head ensuring the visitors were ahead of the par score when rain called off the game on Sunday. Here are the player rankings for the team.
Mitchell Marsh: 7.5/10
122 runs @ 30.50, HS: 60
Marsh shuffled between opening and batting at No.3 in the series. He got starts in the four games he played, making 60, 24 and 28 in the last three games he played but would have wanted to convert them.
Travis Head: 10/10
248 runs @ 82.66, HS: 154*
6 wickets @ 10.33, BBI: 4-28
Head ended being the Player of the Series for his all-round efforts that saw Australia win after losing two games in a row. He was the only Australian to cross 200 runs, the only one to make a hundred. He was a surprise element with the ball, with his 4-28 in Bristol leading to a major collapse.
Steven Smith: 7.5/10
137 runs @ 34.25, HS: 60
Like Marsh, Smith struggled to get the big knocks as well. His 60 in the third ODI, however, came after Australia had lost two early wickets, laying the foundation for the side to cross 300 eventually. He also made an unbeaten 36 in the last ODI in the winning run chase.
Cameron Green: 4/10
74 runs @ 37, HS: 42
2 wickets @ 35, BBI: 2-45
Green played just two ODIs before being sidelined due to a back injury.
Marnus Labuschagne: 6/10
100 runs @ 33.33, HS: 77*
3 wickets @ 16.33, BBI: 3-39
Labuschagne shone in the first ODI, making a quick 77* as Australia chased down 316, but managed only 23 runs in the next three innings. He also picked the wickets of Ben Duckett and Harry Brook in the game.
Josh Inglis: 2/10
36 runs @ 36, HS: 28*
Inglis played the last two ODIs and was one of the unbeaten batters before rain came down on Sunday.
Glenn Maxwell: 4/10
39 runs @ 13, HS: 30
5 wickets @ 21, BBI: 2-15
Maxwell did not impress with the bat in the three innings he batted but was one of the many spinners Australia turned to when they needed to get back in the game.
Alex Carey: 7.5/10
164 runs @ 82, HS: 77*
The second-highest run-scorer for Australia, Carey batted with a strike rate of 106, getting two fifties. He was the only batter to offer some fightback in the second ODI with a knock of 74 after his team had fallen to 151-5, and made an unbeaten 77 in the next game.
Matthew Short: 5/10
101 runs @ 33.66, HS: 58
While Short did not score plenty of runs, he played quickfire cameos, the most important of which was in the last ODI. With rain around, his 30-ball 53 helped Australia get ahead of the DLS score, taking them to a series win.
Aaron Hardie: 7/10
67 runs @ 33.50, HS: 44
4 wickets @ 29.25, BBI: 2-26
Hardie bowled 24 overs in four innings and was the most economical bowler from either side, giving 4.87 runs an over.
Ben Dwarshuis: 1/10
1 wicket @ 18, BBI: 1-18
Dwarshuis bowled just four overs in the only game he played, dismissing Phil Salt in the first ODI.
Adam Zampa: 8.5/10
8 wickets @ 28.87, BBI: 3-49
The leading wicket-taker for Australia, Zampa’s leg-spin proved to be the difference between the two sides. He got wickets at crucial moments and though he was expensive on occasions, in a high-scoring series, dismissing batters had more value.
Josh Hazlewood: 2/10
3 wickets @ 56.66, BBI: 2-54
Not a memorable outing for Hazlewood, who sent down 30 overs in four innings without much success.
Mitchell Starc: 4/10
5 wickets @ 46, BBI: 3-50
Starc fared better than his fellow experienced seamer but lacked the usual threat he is known for.
*Sean Abbott and Cooper Connolly did not take any wickets
