England have called up Olly Stone for the upcoming ODIs against Australia, handing rest to Gus Atkinson for the five-match series.
Atkinson rested for the five-match series
Atkinson did not take the field on the morning day three of the third Test after suffering from a tight quad. He returned to bowl on the third evening and final morning, but was down on speed.
The 26-year-old starred in England's Test series win over Sri Lanka, which they won 2-1, picking up 12 wickets at 27.41, and also hitting a century from No.8 in the second Test at Lord's.
Atkinson was initially named in the ODI squad announced earlier this month that confirmed injured Jos Buttler's non-participation for the T20Is. Buttler has been named captain of the ODI group, but his participation continues to be uncertain.
Atkinson has played nine ODIs for England, picking up 11 wickets at 35.27. The last of those came against the West Indies on their tour to the Caribbean in late 2023.

Why has Gus Atkinson made such a successful start to life as a Test cricketer? And what does he have in common with Courtney Walsh's bowling style? 🤔 pic.twitter.com/d49oEcyxdW
Olly Stone earns a recall
Olly Stone, the 30-year-old Nottinghamshire seamer, has been called-up to the ODI squad.
Stone, who picked up seven wickets in the Sri Lanka series – playing the second and third Tests – has picked up eight wickets in as many ODIs. Four of those appearances came during the 2018 tour of Sri Lanka, after which Stone played two ODIs in Australia, and two in South Africa. The last of those was in January 2023.
The first ODI will be played at Trent Bridge on September 19. The final one will be played in Bristol on September 29.
