Adil Rashid takes his 200th men's ODI wicket in England's second ODI against Australia

Adil Rashid became the third England bowler to take 200 wickets in ODI cricket when he dismissed Glenn Maxwell in England's second ODI against Australia today (September 21) in Leeds.

After their dominant victory in the first ODI earlier this week, Australia made another good start with the bat, reaching 145-3 before Jacob Bethell combined with Rashid to spark a middle order collapse. Bethell dismissed Marnus Labuschagne and Mitchell Marsh in consecutive overs, getting rid of both set batters, before Rashid dealt with Maxwell. He bowled a pitched up delivery, inviting Maxwell to slog sweep, which he couldn't resist and holed out straight to Bethell on the deep mid-wicket boundary.

The wicket was Rashid's 200th in ODIs, bringing him alongside Darren Gough and James Anderson as the only England bowlers to have reached the milestone, with Rashid the only spinner. Across all countries, Rashid is the 12th spinner to take 200 ODI wickets, currently sitting behind Bangladesh's Abdur Razzaq, who has 207.

However, he is a long way behind the all-time leader of the spin wicket-taking charts in the format, Muttiah Muralitharan, who has 534. Of active players ahead of him, Shakib Al Hasan (317) and Ravindra Jadeja (220), are his only contemporaries.

It's taken Rashid 137 ODI matches to reach 200 wickets, making him the third-fastest spinner of all time to the landmark. He is only behind Saqlain Mushtaq and Shane Warne, who took 104 and 125 matches respectively. In terms of England bowlers, only Darren Gough reached 200 wickets quicker (134 matches), and Rashid sits in 17th place on the overall list.

Australia temporarily stabilised after Maxwell's wicket. Alex Carey and Aaron Hardie put on a 55-run stand to take Australia to 216-6 before Brydon Carse struck twice in consecutive balls. Hardie was caught at midwicket off a miscue before Mitchell Starc was out first ball, caught at square-leg. Rashid was then immediately brought back on for his final two overs to mop up the Australia tail. He struck immediately, dismissing Adam Zampa caught at backward point off the third ball of his over, leaving Australia nine down.
