Watch: Ricky Ponting was visibly annoyed after being hit by grapes from the crowd on live TV while discussing another riveting day of Ashes cricket on Thursday at the Kia Oval (28 July).

Ponting, who is on commentary duties for Sky Sports during the Ashes, has not held back in his criticism of England players during the series. Be it cutting Kevin Pietersen short during his praise for Joe Root, or his lashing out at “forgettable” Ollie Robinson’s behaviour or Root’s “ridiculous” suggestion on tackling the slow over-rate in Test cricket, Ponting has not shied away from sharing his honest opinions during the tour.
He was also not going to let go of the perpetrator who threw grapes at him while he was discussing the action at the end of day one with spinner Todd Murphy and host Ian Ward. Upon being hit with the fruit, Ward suggested Murphy walk away from the interview as they were being pelted with grapes.
“You [Murphy] better go as we’re getting pelted by grapes,” advised Ward. Ponting cut him short and said, “Someone’s just hit me with a grape. I might find out who it was actually.”
Ward added: “We’ll do that after we’ve gone off air.”
England were all out for 283 in the first innings at the Kia Oval, while Australia ended on 61-1, trailing by 222 runs.
