England started the day with serious intent with Joe Root attempting three reverse scoops in the first five minutes of the day, rapidly extending their lead with the threat of rain looming on day five.

49 runs were scored off the first 6.2 overs of the day before Cummins mixed his length up, firing in a fast, in-swinging yorker that beat Pope to remove his off stump.

Pope departed for 14 to give Australia their third wicket of the second innings. England scored 93 before drinks on the fourth morning as they looked to increase their lead at rapid pace to try and force a result even if rain intervenes on day five.
