Watch: Mark Wood was rewarded for a fire-breathing spell in his first Test of 2023, bowling Usman Khawaja with a 95mph (152kph) corker in the third Ashes Test at Headingley.

Wood maintained speeds above 90mph for the entirety of his four-over burst, hitting a peak of 96.5mph in what will go down as perhaps the fastest spell ever bowled by an Englishman in Test cricket.
Australia’s batters had their techniques and tickers tested, but did well to survive until the last ball Wood bowled. It was then that he struck, going full and straight to Khawaja. The opener has been Australia’s most immovable batter this series, but had no answer to Wood’s electric pace, with an inside-edge unable to stop the ball from flattering leg-stump.
That was England’s second wicket of the morning, with Stuart Broad having continued his hold over David Warner earlier in the session, nicking him off in the first over.
England are 2-0 down in the series with three to play. Wood, who has struggled with injury throughout his career, hasn’t featured for England in 2023 in Tests, having last been fit to play in Pakistan at the end of 2022.
