Australia were put into bat by England on the first morning o in Manchester, and got off to a similar start as they did at Headingley, with Warner hitting Stuart Broad for a four off the very first ball.
Broad and James Anderson were given short first spells of four overs each where Broad trapped Usman Khawaja plumb in front to inch closer to his 600th Test wicket.
Mark Wood and Woakes were then brought on, and Warner, who had been under pressure coming into this Test match, played in his naturally positive manner and raced away to 32 in no time.

Looking good for a rare big score in England, he eventually fell while going for a full-blooded cover drive off a Woakes length ball, only managing to get a thin edge through to the wicketkeeper.
The dismissal might have been a regulation one, but the reaction from Warner wasn’t. As soon as he got the edge, he knew he was in trouble and threw his head back in disappointment. In fact, he didn’t even look back and started walking, all before the ball had been taken safely by Bairstow behind the stumps.
While it was a disappointing end to a short but entertaining innings, Warner played his part in providing a brisk start to Australia with his 38-ball 32.
