Edgbaston have explained that the intruder dressed up as the Star Wars character Darth Vader, who crossed the seating area on day three of the first Ashes Test yesterday (June 18) was not ejected from the stadium.

Amidst the high-octane action that prevailed on the field on Day Three of the first Ashes Test at Edgbaston, there was a moment of amusement for the viewers outside, both those present in the stands and those watching from home.
One of the spectators, dressed as Star Wars antagonist Darth Vader, had crossed the seating area venturing close to the boundary boards.

He was swiftly escorted away from the boundary perimeter by security and it seemed like he was taken into custody, giving rise to several Star Wars-themed puns and jokes on social media.
Several saw the funny side, given that yesterday was Father’s Day, and Darth Vader is far from the model father. People found an excellent opportunity to come up with relevant jokes.

The Edgbaston venue authorities, meanwhile, tweeted a statement, explaining that the spectator dressed as Darth Vader had strayed close to the boundary perimeter, which was why he was escorted away.
However, they clarified that he had not ejected from the stadium and that he later watched the game from his seat.
