Chasing 194 runs for their first Super Four win of the event, Pakistan lost Fakhar Zaman in the ninth over, which brought Babar to the crease. The right-hander played cautiously, reaching 17 in his first 20 balls before his innings was ended by a beauty from Taskin.

The seamer sent down a fuller delivery outside the off stump, and Babar looked for a drive. However, he did not account for the inswing, and the ball came back in, hit the toe end of the bat and onto the stumps. The Pakistan skipper, who made 151 against Nepal the last time he batted in the tournament, departed for a 22-ball 17, as Taskin picked up his sixth wicket of the 2023 Asia Cup.

The wicket left Pakistan 74-2 and still requiring 120 to win. However, Imam-ul-Haq and Mohammad Rizwan put on a strong 85-run partnership after Babar was dismissed, to take them within touching distance of their target. Imam was finally dismissed for 78 while Rizwan also registered a half-century before Pakistan reached their target with more than ten overs to spare.
