Play was delayed for almost an hour during Pakistan’s run chase, after the scheduled day of the match was largely washed out. Following Virat Kohli and KL Rahul’s mammoth partnership, Pakistan reached 44-2 off 11 overs before going off for rain. Rizwan had only had to face two balls before the break, having come in to replace Babar Azam, who’d been dismissed by Hardik Pandya earlier in the over.
When they came back on, Thakur wasted no time in picking up where India left off.
Thakur came on to bowl the first over of his innings, with Rizwan to face his first ball and playing out a dot. A wide and a couple of singles from the next two legal balls saw Rizwan back on strike for the fourth ball of the over and had to face up to a beauty.
The ball pitched on a fourth stump line and held its course rather than swinging back in. Rizwan played down the wrong line and attempted to tuck it off his pads and into the leg side. Instead, he got the faintest of edges and the ball went through behind where Rahul was waiting with the gloves.
The wicket reduced Pakistan to 47-3 and brought Agha Salman to the crease to partner Fakhar Zaman.
