The 16th edition of the Asia Cup starts on August 30. Pakistan are the official hosts of the tournament which will be played across Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
India and Pakistan have been placed in the same group – Group A – ensuring that they will play each other at least once, on September 2. If both qualify for the Super Fours, they’ll meet again on September 10, and in case both qualify for the final, a third and final encounter will take place on September 17. India have featured in the ODI format of the Asia Cup in 12 out of 13 editions, having missed the 1986 edition. India are the most successful side in the men’s ODI Asia Cup history, having won the tournament six times, including the earliest (1984) and the latest (2018) editions.
They have played 49 ODIs in the Asia Cup, winning 31 of them. Only Sri Lanka have won more ODIs in the Asia Cup – 34.
Pakistan in men’s ODI Asia Cup: Overall record
Pakistan have also featured in all but one edition of the men’s ODI Asia Cup – 1990/91. They have won the tournament twice, in 2000 and in 2012, the same number of times as they finished runners-up, in 1986 and in 2014.
In terms of matches won, Pakistan are the third-most successful side in men’s ODI Asia Cup history, having won 26 out of 45 games across editions.

India and Pakistan have met each other 13 times in the men’s ODI Asia Cup. India hold a slight edge over their arch-rivals, having won seven out of the 13 games, with Pakistan having won five.

In the previous men’s ODI Asia Cup (in 2018), both teams played each other twice, and India came out on top on both occasions. Current India captain Rohit Sharma would have particularly fond memories of those two games as he scored a fifty in one and a hundred in the other.
In fact, India have won four out of the last five ODIs that they have played against Pakistan in the Asia Cup, with the only loss coming in 2014 when Pakistan snatched a one-wicket victory in the last over courtesy of two memorable sixes from Shahid Afridi.
They have met each other thrice in the history of the tournament in Sri Lanka, with each team winning one and one game ending in no result.

Rohit Sharma is next on the list with 367 runs from seven games at an average of 73.40, while Younis Khan (238 runs @ 79.33) and Virat Kohli (206 runs @ 68.66) are third and fourth.
