India’s opening Asia Cup 2023 encounter with Pakistan was called off due to rain after India posted 266 batting first. India’s innings with the bat was interrupted several times by brief spells of rain. However, Pakistan managed to bowl them out with seven balls to spare before rain prevented them from starting the chase. The match was eventually ruled a washout.

India’s next match, against Nepal, is at the same venue – the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium – on Monday (September 4), and the forecast for the game is similarly concerning.

AccuWeather predicts an 89 percent chance precipitation on Monday in Pallekele, while weather.com says there’s an 80 percent chance of rain on the day of the India-Nepal match in Pallekele.

According to weather.com, the first half of the game might witness long spells of rain with thunderstorms predicted between 12:30 pm and 4:30 pm local time (the match starts at 3 pm local time).

Another spell of showers is expected around 7:30 pm local time, with conditions remaining overcast throughout the evening. The temperatures during the game will reduce gradually from 26 degrees Celsius to around 23 degrees Celsius as the game progresses.

Pakistan have qualified for the Super Fours from Group A after their match against India the no result against India and their victory over Nepal.

India are currently on one point while Nepal are at zero. Another washout for India will take them to two points and through to the Super Fours with Nepal finishing with just one.

However, a victory for Nepal will eliminate India as the former will have two points and the latter just one, making the India-Nepal game a virtual knockout encounter.
