Watch: Bangladesh stunned India in the final Super Fours game of the 2023 Asia Cup, defeating them by six runs. Watch the IND vs BAN highlights here.
India won the toss and opted to bowl first, choosing to bat under lights for the first time in the tournament. Having already qualified for the final on Sunday, they made five changes to their XI, including resting Virat Kohli, who served as a waterboy during the game, and handing Tilak Varma a debut as Shreyas Iyer continued to miss out due to a back injury.
Mohammed Shami, who had been warming the benches in the tournament as Mohammed Siraj was preferred over him, dismissed Litton Das with a stunning wobble-seam delivery, before Shardul Thakur wreaked havoc, picking the next two wickets to leave Bangladesh reeling at 28-3. Axar Patel dismissed Mehidy Hasan Miraz with the score on 59, but Shakib Al Hasan played a captain’s knock, combining with Towhid Hridoy to stitch together a century stand.
The tail wagged for Bangladesh as No.8 Nasum Ahmed made an attacking 44, combined with useful contributions from Mahedi Hasan and Tanzim Hasan Sakib. Bangladesh ended with a competitive 265-8 as they looked for their first win in the Super Fours.

They got off to a fine start, dismissing India skipper Rohit Sharma for a duck, before Tilak followed, unable to make an impact on debut. He fell to another debutant Tanzim, who also got Rohit’s wicket earlier, and impressed with his figures of 2-32 in 7.5 overs.
Suryakumar Yadav fell attempting a premeditated sweep even as Shubman Gill kept going at the other end. He eventually brought up his fourth ODI ton and first in a run chase, becoming the only batter in the world currently to average over 60 (61.19) and have a strike rate of over 100 (102.51).
However, his dismissal on 121 spelt doom and despite a knock of 42 by Axar, who was hit on both his wrists during his innings, India fell six runs short.
