Watch: Virat Kohli brought up his long-awaited 71st international hundred in India’s Asia Cup clash against Afghanistan, getting to the landmark in style, with a six pulled over midwicket.

Kohli’s century drought has been a frequent topic of discussion, with the man rated by some as India’s greatest all-format batter not having brought up three figures in any format since 2019.

Finally, 1,020 days after last reaching a hundred, Kohli did so again. He did so in spectacular fashion, extending his first T20I century into India’s highest score in the format.

Kohli’s acceleration was key in getting him to the landmark. After 15 overs, he had 59 off 40 balls, and it seemed as if he might fall short. But he smashed 63 off his last 21 balls, moving to his hundred with a four and a six off the first two balls of the 19th over.

India and Afghanistan are already out of Asia Cup final contention, having each lost their first two Super Four clashes to Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
