Watch: Asif Ali was embroiled in a fiery exchange with Fareed Ahmed following his dismissal in a pivotal moment during the Pakistan-Afghanistan Asia Cup clash.

Asif faced immediate criticism on social media, with some calling for him to face a ban.

The No.7 batter was the ninth batter to fall, top-edging to short fine leg and leaving Pakistan with 12 runs needed to win in nine balls. Fareed walked up to Asif and celebrated vociferously in close proximity to the Pakistan batter.

Asif responded by pushing Fareed away, before swinging his bat over his shoulder, apparently threatening to hit the bowler. The two came into contact again, before Afghanistan’s Azmatullah Omarzai intervened to separate the two players.

Pakistan ended up winning by one wicket, with Naseem Shah hitting two sixes off the first two balls of the final over. The result confirmed that Pakistan will face Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup final, knocking out Afghanistan and India, who will play tomorrow.
