Afghanistan's have featured in four Tests in 2024, the most they have played in a calender year.

When the Afghanistan v New Zealand one-off Test be played?

Afghanistan will host New Zealand in a Test match for the first time in their adopted home ground at the Greater Noida Sports Complex in India. The match will be played between Monday, September 9 and Friday, September 13. This will be Afghanistan’s 10th match in the longest format and third in 2024 – the most they have played in a calendar year.

After the series, New Zealand will fly out to Sri Lanka for two Tests, starting September 18, before again coming back to the country to play three Tests against India, starting October 16.

Afghanistan will be without their captain, Rashid Khan, who is medically advised against participating in Tests due to a back operation last year after the ODI World Cup. He was part of Afghanistan’s historic semi-final run in the T20 World Cup in June. Hashmatullah Shahidi will lead the home side in Rashid's absence. In another injury blow, they lost pacer Naveen Zadran because of a side strain.

New Zealand have kept the outfit almost the same as the last time they played against Australia, with Tim Southee continuing as skipper. Devon Conway, Glenn Phillips, Rachin Ravindra and Kane Williamson are among their key players, with Mitchell Santner, Ajaz Patel and Michael Bracewell in the spin flotilla. The same squad will play Sri Lanka.
