Watch: An emotional Naseem Shah, who helped Pakistan to a nervy one-wicket win over Afghanistan in the second ODI, received a welcome full of hugs and smiles from his teammates in Hambantota.

Naseem hit a four off the penultimate ball of the innings, securing a one-wicket win against Afghanistan as Pakistan chased down 301 to lead the series 2-0. The winning runs came against Fazalhaq Farooqi, the same bowler against whom he had hit two sixes to complete a sensational one-wicket win against the same opposition, which confirmed their place in the 2022 Asia Cup T20 final.

Before Naseem, it was Shadab Khan’s 35-ball 48 that brought Pakistan back in the game, having stumbled to 211-6 at one point. Shadab was dramatically run out at the non-striker’s end by Farooqi, leaving the match in a precarious position. With 11 needed off the final over, Naseem ticked off the remaining runs along with Haris Rauf.

After the win, Naseem walked back to applause from his Pakistan teammates, who greeted him at the boundary ropes. A video posted by Pakistan Cricket Board’s social media channel saw the Pakistan dugout celebrating joyously, before welcoming Naseem and Rauf. Naseem, clearly absorbed by the moment, said: “I’d just say one thing – I wish my mother could have seen this today. I don’t have words right now”.

Later, Babar Azam and Shadab were seen greeting fans, with Naseem signing memorabilia for a section of the audience.
