Sri Lanka host Afghanistan in a three-match ODI series beginning on June 2 – here is a full list of the fixtures and schedule, including timings and match venues.
The last series between the two took place in November 2022, and both sides will have a fresh idea of the challenges and opportunities ahead of them.
That series ended in a 1-1 draw after the second ODI was abandoned. Afghanistan won the first game by 60 runs largely thanks to Ibrahim Zadran’s excellent 106 and a four-wicket haul by Fazalhaq Farooqi helped seal the win.
While these three games were all played at Pallekele, the upcoming series will take place at Mahinda Rajapaksa International Stadium in Hambantota. The venue has not hosted a single men’s international game since February 2020. The first game of the series will be on June 2, with the remaining two games being played over the span of the next five days.
Overall, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka have faced each other seven times in the format, with Afghanistan picking up just two wins in the process.
Afghanistan have already announced their squad for the tour, picking Ibrahim and Farooqi, heroes of their previous triumph, along with uncapped medium-pacer Abdul Rahman in the 15-member team.
Hashmatullah Shahidi will lead them, while Rahmat Shah is his deputy. The squad also includes Rashid Khan, Mohammad Nabi, Noor Ahmad, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Mujeeb ur Rahman, Ikram Alikhil, Riaz Hassan, Fareed Ahmad, Azmatullah Omarzai, and Najibullah Zadran.
Their four reserves are Gulbadin Naib, Shahidullah Kamal, Yamin Ahmadzai, and Zia ur Rahman Akbar.
