Afghanistan last played a Test match in June last year, where they lost to Bangladesh by 546 runs. Allrounders Karim Janat and Amir Hamza were part of the squad for that match, but have been left out this time around. Afghanistan’s batting line-up remains virtually the same, with Hashmatullah Shahidi leading the side as well as Ibrahim Zadran, Abdul Malik and Rahmat Shah.
Rashid Khan is the big name to miss out for Afghanistan, as he continues to recover from back surgery. Rashid last played for Afghanistan in the 2023 World Cup, having undergone surgery in November. Leg-spinner Qais Ahmed has been included in the squad, along with uncapped batter Noor Ali Zadran, uncapped left-arm spinner Zia-ur-Rehman, unapped wicketkeeper batter Mohammad Ishaq and uncapped 18-year-old right arm medium-pacer Naveed Zadran.
Sri Lanka have yet to announce their squad for the one-off match.
