Watch: Tagenarine Chanderpaul launched a glorious six straight down the ground to bring up an historic maiden Test double and go past his father’s best Test score.

At stumps on day three of the first test against Zimbabwe, West Indies were in a strong position after declaring on an impressive 447-6, a score that could not have been achieved if not for the heroics of Chanderpaul, notching 207 off 467 deliveries.

After a decade of searching for someone to partner Kraigg Brathwaite at the top of the order, it seems West Indies may have found the answer in the son of the iconic Shivnarine Chanderpaul.

Chanderpaul Sr got his highest score of 203 not out against Bangladesh back in 2012 and played with an inventiveness that captured the imagination of fans across the world.

Earlier today in Bulawayo, Chanderpaul Jr. went past his father’s total and became only the tenth player in the history of West Indies cricket to convert their maiden Test century into a double ton.

The shot that took him there was a thing of beauty. The 26-year-old opener skipped down the wicket to Wellington Masakadza, taking him down the ground, the ball sailing straight over the boundary for six.

With this being just his third Test match, Chanderpaul has already become the tenth opener to pass 200 runs for West Indies.

The rest of the team flattered to deceive with the only notable scorers being the top two, Brathwaite scoring 182 off 312.

Zimbabwe managed to put 114 runs on the board for the loss of three wickets in 41.4 overs with opener Innocent Kaia set to resume the following day unbeaten on 59.

However, having lost time to rain and with only two days left to play there could still be a draw, despite such impressive work from both Chanderpaul and Brathwaite.
