The series is the first of a busy 2023 for Ireland who also tour Bangladesh and Sri Lanka before hosting Bangladesh and then travelling to England for three ODIs and a one-off Test. They will also participate in the European qualifying tournament for the T20 World Cup.

Once Ireland leave, Zimbabwe will then welcome West Indies for two Test matches in February.

Both teams have had high profile news associated with their squads. Zimbabwe have selected Gary Ballance after the former England batter signed a two-year deal with Zimbabwe cricket following his departure from Yorkshire. Meanwhile Sikandar Raza has been given permission to miss the T20I series in order to play in the UAE’s ILT20.

Similarly, Ireland’s Josh Little and Paul Stirling will miss the series in order to play in the ILT20 and SA20 respectively, but both will return for the ODI series.
