Watch: Napping Marnus Labuschagne gets woken up by crowd reaction to David Warner wicket, walks out to bat moments later

by Wisden Staff 2 minute read

Watch: A napping Marnus Labuschagne was rudely woken up by the crowd chants after the fall of David Warner’s wicket, with the No.3 quickly realising he had to walk out to bat following the opener’s dismissal during the third innings of the WTC final against India on June 9.

After India folded for 296, chasing Australia’s first innings score of 469, Labuschagne decided to take a nap in the dressing room when the openers, Warner and Usman Khawaja, were batting. Australia had been on the field for 69.4 overs during India’s innings, and Labuschagne decided to make the most of his time as he awaited his turn with the bat, expecting the openers to put on a long stand.

However, he was in for some disappointment, as the right-hander’s slumber came to a sudden end in the fourth over, when the crowd celebrations awakened him following Warner’s dismissal by Mohammed Siraj. Cameras panned to Labuschagne, who hurriedly woke up from the noise and realised that he had to cut short his sleep as he had to walk out at No.3.
