Watch: Mitchell Starc bowled a brutal short ball that had Virat Kohli fending off to second slip as India’s miseries grew on Day Two of the World Test Championship Final at The Kia Oval today (June 8).

Kohli had come to the crease after both openers had got out on the score of 30. Chasing a first-innings score of 469, India’s hopes lay on him to play a long innings and get the team as close to the Australian total as possible.

He started off in his typical busy fashion, looking to push balls into gaps and run fast. Mitchell Starc, who had not had a great start to the innings, came back into the attack for a second spell in the 17th over and was treated to a trademark, delightful, Virat Kohli cover drive.

Kohli had started to look confident and Starc, who had been wayward till that point, looked like the least threatening bowler in the Australian attack. Yet, out of nowhere, he produced a peach in his next over.

Bowling from over the wicket, Starc pitched it on a short of a length. The ball bounced ferociously, catching Kohli off-guard as he looked to fend it away, but to no avail. All he could manage was to glove it to Steve Smith at second slip who took a sharp catch with both hands.

Kohli became the fourth Indian batter to get dismissed between 10 and 15 in this innings as India slid further.
