The 2023 World Cup Qualifier starts today (June 18) in Harare with hosts Zimbabwe taking on Nepal and West Indies taking on the United States of America.
The event will serve as a qualifying tournament to decide the two remaining spots in the ODI World Cup that will take place between October and November 2023. A total of ten teams will be seen in action in a cut-throat competition, vying for the top two spots.
The ICC will either broadcast or live stream all 34 matches of the tournament for the first time in the tournament’s history. The 20 matches that will be played at the Harare Sports Club in Harare and the Queen’s Sports Club in Bulawayo will be broadcasted across TV and digital, while the remaining 14 games that will be played across the Takashinga Cricket Club in Harare and the Bulawayo Athletic Club in Bulawayo will be live streamed.
World Cup Qualifier 2023: Participating teams, format, schedule
Ten teams will be participating in the World Cup Qualifier in Zimbabwe. These include:
- Two from the World Cup Qualifier playoff – UAE, USA
- Three from the Super League 2 – Nepal, Oman, Scotland
- The bottom five teams from the World Cup Super League – Ireland, Zimbabwe, West Indies, Sri Lanka, Netherlands
The ten teams are divided into two groups of five each. The top three teams from each group will qualify for the Super Six stage, while carrying over their results from the two matches against the other teams to advance from their initial group.

The teams will then play the other three teams to advance from the other group. The top two teams at the end of it all will book their place in the ODI World Cup, while also contesting in a Final to decide the champions of the World Cup Qualifier.
